When a foreign citizen is granted a Russian entry visa, he/she acquires a legal right to cross the borders of the Russian Federation for the purposes of stay specified in the visa application. Issuing a visa is an internal structured process, and even insignificant loosening of rules and regulations could lead to rejection in granting a visa on the part of the consular service.

Do citizens of the CIS countries need a visa for entering the territory of the Russian Federation?

The citizens of all the states, being the current member of CIS, may enter the territory of the Russian Federation without entry visa.

Along with that, the citizens of Azerbaidzhan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, while entering the territory of the Russian Federation, must produce a foreign passport, whereas the citizens of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have a right to cross the Russian borders with national passports.

Why do you need a visa?
The Russian visa grants a right of entry to the country and stay on the territory of the Russian Federation within the permitted period. At the same time, the key features of this document are its time constraint and the purpose of stay. The breach of the permitted period of stay or the declared purpose results in prosecution in courts and deportation.

How much does it cost? What is the fee for obtaining a Russian entry visa?

The total fee includes the consular fee and service fees. The latter means that you are paying for the services of a visa application office issuing a visa.

When submitting an application, it is required to pay a consular fee depending on the urgency of processing a visa application and the applicant's country of residence.

  • For the European Union citizens, the standard fee is 35 Euro and 70 euro for an urgent visa correspondingly.
  • For the citizens of the USA, the UK and Canada: 140 and 250 euro correspondingly.


    In the event of rejection, the fees are not subject to refund, so make sure to fill out all the necessary application forms correctly following the recommendations provided.

    Having received the filled profile and the enclosed documentation, the authorities shall check the following information:

    • The completeness of presented documents.
    • The conformity of the details regarding a foreign citizen to the details specified in the invitation letter (purpose, period and duration of stay).
    • The absence of official prohibition against the applicant's stay on the territory of the Russian Federation.
    Visa processing time depends on physical and technical capacity of the consular office. It may take up to 10 days for a visa application to get processed. In the case of the urgent visa application, the visa could be granted within one day.
